Caring for your Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are common these days. More and more people—both men and women—are having dermal fillers injected and even if they haven’t done it, people are more aware of this aesthetic procedure.
One of the most common questions asked by patients and those who are considering dermal fillers is this:
How should I take care of the area injected after treatment?
Are there foods I must avoid? Must I avoid exercises completely?
Can I apply makeup because I never step out of the house without makeup!?
Dr. Terence Tan of Halley Medical Aesthetics (Halley) clears the air, and highlights four things you must take note of post-treatment:
#1: You may return to most of your normal activities shortly after treatment. However, if possible, try not to touch the treated area or apply make-up for five hours. This is to reduce the risk of injection-site infection.
#2: You should avoid strenuous exercise and pressing on treated areas for two days following treatment. Light washing of the face and make-up is fine.
#3: If you experience any bruising after treatment, you should avoid alcohol consumption, Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (i.e. painkillers) such as Mefenamic Acid (Ponstan) and Naproxen (Synflex). For patients with Halley, you may apply our Brillance Super Recovery Cream to minimise bruising.
#4: Mild swelling up to one week after treatment is possible. Generally no treatment is necessary for this. Paracetamol (Panadol) can be taken for any discomfort that may occur.
Lastly, always speak to a doctor if you have any concerns about fillers.
