Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

Astique Clinic | 18 Apr 2014

Fractional laser skin resurfacing is a process in which the skin’s surface is physically removed by a controlled burn.

The outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) and the upper portion of the underlying dermis are removed. After this, new skin cells regenerate to cover the denuded surface. The new skin will look smoother and less blemished. Laser resurfacing has been shown to stimulate new collagen production, and also helps in reducing facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes and acne scars.

How Effective is Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing helps reduce facial wrinkles, scars and blemishes. This advanced laser technology gives greater control in laser surfacing, permitting extreme precision, especially in delicate areas.

Laser skin resurfacing can improve minor facial flaws, such as:

  • Fine lines or wrinkles around or under your eyes, forehead or mouth
  • Scars from acne or chickenpox
  • Non-responsive skin after undergoing a facelift
  • Aged or sun-damaged skin
  • Liver spots
  • Yellowish or grayish skin tones in the complexion
  • Warts
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose

Patients will observe significant skin improvement from the 5th to 7th day onwards. Thermal heating from the procedure will induce collagen remodeling, thus improving the skin’s condition.

Your skin type and condition and your lifestyle following the procedure can affect the short- and long-term results of laser resurfacing. Some types of skin problems respond better to laser resurfacing than others, and people with lighter skin who limit their sun exposure after the procedure tend to have better results than those with darker skin and those who continue to spend lots of time in the sun. In general, laser resurfacing tends to have good results with fairly low risks.
