Let’s Raise Some Eyebrows
Botulinum neurotoxins are often used for brow lift. But do you know that Ultherapy is another no downtime option to refresh your brows?
Eyebrows. They are just hair on our face but so many of us fuss over its shape (arched or straight?). When we age, our eyebrows start to droop, causing us anguish as the pair makes us look old, tired, sad and even angry. That’s when we turn to one of the most popular medical aesthetic treatments to lift our brows - Botox.
Many people think that Botox (and other brands of botulinum neurotoxin like Dysport or Xeomin) are injected to physically lift the brows but that is not the case.
“It is injected in what we call the corrugator muscles and orbicularis occuli muscles located near the eyebrow. These are the muscles that pull the brows down. Botulinum neurotoxin relaxes these muscles. Once those muscles stop contracting, your brows will lift naturally,” explains Dr. Terence Tan, Director of Halley Medical Aesthetics."
The beauty of Botox/Dysport/Xeomin procedure is that there is no downtime. But it is a treatment that requires a refresh every three to four months. So this is where Ultherapy comes in to complement the treatment and it works well for older patients who need extra help to lift their sagging brows.
Using the Ulthera device, doctors use focused ultrasound energy to stimulate the production of collagen in the brow area to produce tightening and lifting of the brows with no downtime.
“Many people think of Ultherapy as a skin tightening treatment for the whole face but they don’t realise that this US FDA-approved non-invasive therapy is great for targeted treatment to address small problematic areas on the face,” says Dr. Tan.
“Furthermore, the result will improve over months and Ultherapy is clinically proven to be long lasting. It is used to treat areas that doctors would surgically cut and lift during a traditional brow lift but in a non-surgical manner with no downtime,” he adds.
So which treatment should you pick for your brow lift? Dr. Tan says that ultimately, the decision lies between you and your aesthetic doctor.
“Using botulinum neurotoxin is a short-term therapy that can be paired with Ultherapy brow lift for longer, lasting effect. It is best to speak with your doctor to find out which is the best option for you,” he says.
