Square or Broad Jawline?
A square lower jaw is generally considered a very masculine trait. Widening of the lower third of the face can cause either a square appearance to the face as a whole or can distort the natural appearance of the angle between the chin and the neck.
The primary cause of an enlarged mandible is developmental or congenital. Like any muscle, the jaw muscles increase in size with exercise. Behaviors such as repeated gum chewing, teeth clenching, teeth grinding or bruxism can contribute to enlargement of the muscle.
How To Define A Square Jaw
Use this simplified method. First draw a straight line, vertical to the floor line, and touching the earlobe. Then draw a second line, that follows the jaw line, and connect it to the first line. That makes this simple jaw angle. The squarer the jaw, the smaller the angle. Perfect square jaw angle would be 90 degrees, but this is extremely rare.
If the oversize jaw is primarily caused by enlargement of the enlarged muscle, patient can opt for convenient non-surgical method such as botulinum toxin injection.
Botox or botulinum toxin is injected into the enlarged muscle, weakening it, so it slowly becomes smaller through atrophy over several months. This treatment is a fast procedure that has very minimal discomfort. There is no down-time and improvement is gradual - individuals who interact with the patient may never know that a procedure was performed. Patient will receive comments that their face look slimmer.
Botulinum Toxin Injection can also be combined with our latest Ultra V Lift procedure for an enhanced face shape that gives a more 'V' shaped look which is popular among many Korean pop artists!
What To Expect
For jaw reduction, most people will see the effect within 2 to 3 weeks. The result will peak after 1 month. For best result, it is advisable to separate the treatment into 4 sessions in the first year, and follow by just 1 session yearly for maintenance.
