Clear, Smooth Skin without a Pore to Be Seen
Just recently I decided I needed a bit of a freshen up. My skin was looking a little dull and the pores on my nose were suddenly noticeable. So off-putting. Plus, I could see the odd sunspot forming too.

I did a quick bit of research (hello Mr Google) and stumbled across Clear + Brilliant which sounded perfect for me. Clear + Brilliant is a laser skin rejuvenation treatment that resurfaces the top layer of the skin and in the process, removes imperfections.
It’s not as aggressive as Fraxel (another fractionated laser treatment made by the same company) but significantly more effective than say, a microdermabrasion treatment (which is kind of like having your face sandpapered. Trust me on that one). So back to Clear + Brilliant ... it’s said to significantly refresh skin and even prevent signs of ageing. It’s also said to improve tone and texture and provide a radiant, youthful glow.
I read that and instantly booked in to see Suzy Hoitink, at Clear Complexions Clinics. Suzie, a registered nurse with more than 20-years-experience in the beauty industry, is the owner and founder of a handful of hugely successful clinics in both Canberra and Sydney. She offers Clear + Brilliant treatments at her clinics and feels the treatment is a terrific option for those looking for a gentle refresh (that would be me).

“It’s perfect for refreshing and revitalising your skin a few days before a big event,” says Suzie.
“It improves tone and texture and gives skin a real glow. And it can reduce the appearance of pores.
I tell her I am sold and to give it to me - like, now. Suzy is a pro though so after applying anaesthetic cream (yep, it’s a gentle laser but it’s still laser) she insists on giving me a full consult.
There’s a spin under a woods lamp – you know those lamps that show all the sun damage under the surface of your skin. Try it one day. It’s truly horrific. At least it is when I do it.
Then there’s chat about what to expect and some other stuff but I’m kind of dreaming about how awesome I’m going to look so I don’t hear that much.
Then, I’m lying back in the surgery chair with a stress ball in my hand and we’re on. There’s a lot of clicking and the occasional zap and at one point I’m convinced I can smell burning, but I may be imagining that. On the whole though, this is a straight-up walk in the park. On a scale of one to 10 with one being nothing and 10 being agony, I’d give it a two – at best.

That said, my pain threshold is high. Still, this is not a painful experience by any means.
Better still, it’s fast and there’s no down time at all. In fact, 15 minutes later and I’m out on the street. Admittedly, looking like I’ve got a serious sunburn but aside from that, nothing.
The redness is gone within about half an hour which is excellent because I’m at a party drinking champagne by then. Nobody says a word. But then who would?
The next day my skin felt a little rough and kind of tight. Both sensations faded away in the 48 hours following and a week later my skin was dewy and fresh and soft to the touch. Best of all, the pores on my nose were noticeably diminished.
Clear + Brilliant is a mild treatment and given that the results aren't intense and I’ll likely need another before I get maximum bang for my buck. Does that faze me? Not one bit.
