Acne is a condition that affects millions but now there is new hope for those who suffer from embarrassing scarring. A new laser, available at select dermatologist offices, heals cysts and scars by remodeling collagen and prevents new scar tissue from forming.

Bruce E. Katz, M.D., Director of Juva Skin & Laser Center in New York City, EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com about the new technology:

“Acne is a big issue that a lot of people have — and teens and young adults get acne scaring. Acne is one of the most frequent conditions that we treat as dermatologists.

This new laser was approved by the FDA [in August 2014] — it’s called Picosure. It’s brand new technology and the laser fires at a trillion per second. It’s a major new development. It actually reforms the molecules to reduce the scarring.

It’s best to get acne under control and then treat scars as soon as possible. It takes 3 or 4 treatments total. It’s very minimal downtime — you can be a bit red or dry for a day or two.”

The procedure itself is easy and quick:

“We apply numbing cream and let that sit for 15 minutes and then the procedure is about 15 minutes,” says Dr. Katz. “It costs $500 to $1,000 depending on how large the area is that is being treated.”

The laser can be used on the chest, face and back and works on all skin types and tones.
